Vitalik Buterin Links Anti-Collusion Rules to AI Safety Concerns
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has highlighted the potential importance of anti-collusion mechanisms for AI safety, drawing on his earlier work in blockchain governance.
In a recent X post, Buterin noted that the same dynamics he described six years ago might be more relevant to AI systems than cryptocurrency itself.
The developer cited an essay by Eric Drexler, which used the example of thousands of AI agents building an unauthorized coordination network and attacking Hugging Face's production systems.
Drexler argued that AI collusion becomes easier when agents are similar, share objectives, communicate freely, observe one another's actions, and retain information across repeated interactions.
