VTB Prepares for Cryptocurrency Trading Launch in Russia
VTB is preparing to launch cryptocurrency trading in Russia once regulators finalize rules and issue necessary permits, according to Vitaly Sergeichuk, a VTB Management Board member. Client demand for this service is already noticeable, so the bank is proactively building infrastructure.
The move comes after the adoption of a cryptocurrency law in 2026, which has been introduced in stages. The Bank of Russia began forming registries of market participants as of September 1, 2026. VTB expects to capture a significant share of the market thanks to convenient client services, if regulation allows banks to work with digital assets.
The legalization of digital asset trading brings up a range of issues including tax accounting, compliance, and investor protection. The Federal Tax Service of Russia, Federal Financial Monitoring Service, Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, and State Duma are involved in setting rules for the market.
