Wall Street Cuts Bitcoin Price Targets for 2026 Amid Market Volatility

Major financial institutions have revised their Bitcoin price targets downward for 2026, reflecting a more cautious outlook. Standard Chartered now predicts a price of $100,000, while Citi has set its target at $113,000, and Bernstein expects $125,000. These adjustments come as Bitcoin trades at $85,896 as of October 6, down 31.9% from its all-time high of $126,080.

The revisions highlight the volatility and uncertainty in Bitcoin’s price trajectory. Standard Chartered dramatically cut its 2026 target from $150,000 to $100,000 in February, with analyst Geoff Kendrick suggesting the target might still be conservative. Citi’s adjustments have been the most significant, starting the year with a $143,000 target and later reducing it to $82,000 before raising it back to $113,000 in October. Bernstein initially predicted a year-end target of $150,000 but lowered it to $125,000 by October 5.

To meet these revised targets, Bitcoin would need to rally significantly: 16.4% to reach $100,000, 31.6% for $113,000, and 45.5% for $125,000. Each target varies in timeline, with Citi’s projection extending to October 2027, while Standard Chartered and Bernstein’s targets are year-end goals. Brian Vieten from Siebert Financial has the highest target at $175,000, set for 2027.

Despite the lowered forecasts, all three firms continue to expect Bitcoin to finish 2026 above its current price. However, investors should approach these predictions with caution, as banks have revised their targets multiple times this year. Without visibility into the underlying analysis, these forecasts may not differ significantly from random estimates.
