Wall Street's Blockchain Bet: A Structural Shift in the Making

Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan believes that investors are underestimating the scale of Wall Street's adoption of blockchain-based infrastructure. In a recent memo, Hougan pointed out several key developments that demonstrate this shift, including SEC Chairman Paul Atkins' 'Project Crypto' initiative to modernize securities regulation for on-chain markets.

BlackRock CEO Larry Fink has stated that the industry is entering the early stages of tokenizing all assets, and BlackRock has already launched a $2 billion BUIDL tokenized Treasury fund on Uniswap (UNI). Apollo has also tokenized its $700 billion Diversified Credit Fund across six blockchains.

JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo are discussing the launch of a joint stablecoin, while JPMorgan has already launched a deposit token on Base. Fidelity is hiring a DeFi vaults manager.

Hougan argues that traditional investors are anchored by their initial perception of blockchain technology and are missing out on one of the biggest shifts in financial infrastructure.
