Wall Street's Tokenization Hype Hits Reality Check

The rush to tokenize stocks on Wall Street is getting messy as infrastructure issues and regulatory challenges arise.

Nasdaq has invested $100 million in Payward, the parent company of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, to develop infrastructure for tokenized equities. The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) partnered with Payward earlier this week to bring tokenized UK shares to market.

Experts at the Onchain Leaders Gathering in Geneva argued that institutions face significant barriers when it comes to liquidity, confidentiality, and market access in on-chain markets.

Florent Gabriel of Blobb.io stated that 'true enterprise adoption happens when we move beyond isolated proofs-of-concept.' Antoine Hello from Zama emphasized the need for public blockchain infrastructure capable of handling real volume while protecting sensitive financial information.
