Warsh Hold Surprise Could Trigger Bitcoin Rally
Bitcoin's price is hovering around $75,943, down 1.28% in the past 24 hours, as investors await the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) decision on interest rates.
The FOMC has a dismal record of influencing Bitcoin's price, with only two out of the past 14 decisions resulting in a positive reaction for BTC. However, analyst Ali Martinez believes that this time could be different due to the surprise factor of Fed Chair Warsh holding rates steady when markets have priced in movement.
This setup is considered contrarian because it involves a low base-rate probability with high-impact potential if realized. If Warsh does hold rates steady, the surprise could trigger a powerful rally across risk assets as investors rapidly reposition. Bitcoin, which has risen after only two of the past 14 FOMC decisions, could bounce from $75,000 and break above $82,000.
The chart shows that the overwhelming majority of FOMC decisions have resulted in price deterioration for BTC. However, the two positive outcomes both produced double-digit percentage gains. A rate hold surprise would create a surprise premium, forcing rapid repositioning across risk assets and pushing BTC from $75,000 toward $82,000.
