Whale Wallets Flock to SparkLend with $7.39 Billion in Conservative DeFi Bets
SparkLend, a lending protocol built on Ethereum's Spark ecosystem, has seen a significant influx of funds from whale wallets over the past six months. A total of 88,320 ETH has been deposited into the platform, bringing its total market size to around $7.39 billion and Total Value Locked (TVL) to nearly $4.96 billion.
The protocol's conservative approach to DeFi lending appears to be a key factor in its appeal to large wallet holders. In April 2026, SparkLend avoided losses when the KelpDAO/rsETH bridge exploit rattled the DeFi landscape, causing over $1 billion in fresh deposits to flow into the platform.
The collateral composition of SparkLend also suggests that whale wallets are choosing conservative strategies. Wrapped staked ETH (wstETH) and WETH assets have been used as collateral by multiple wallets exceeding $100 million in value.
SparkLend has recently consolidated its deployment on Gnosis Chain, deprecating the deployment effective September 14, 2026. This move is seen as a practical cleanup rather than a dramatic pivot, allowing the protocol to focus its liquidity and risk management attention on Ethereum.
