Winklevoss Files for Zcash ETF with SEC Nasdaq Listing
A new exchange-traded fund (ETF) backed by the Winklevoss twins has taken a step toward listing on the Nasdaq Stock Market. The Winklevoss Zcash ETF filed a registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), aiming to track the price of Zcash (ZEC). If approved, the fund would list under the ticker WINK and be sponsored by Winklevoss Asset Services, with Gemini Trust Company acting as custodian for its ZEC holdings.
The proposed ETF would charge an annual sponsor fee of 0.25% and would not use leverage or derivatives. Winklevoss Capital Fund has expressed interest in purchasing up to $100 million in shares, though the investment is not binding. The ETF would provide investors with exposure to Zcash through traditional brokerage accounts, avoiding the need to hold the privacy-focused cryptocurrency directly.
Zcash relies on zero-knowledge proofs to enable shielded transactions, concealing details such as transaction amounts and participant identities. The Winklevoss Zcash ETF would join Grayscale’s existing Zcash ETF (ZCSH), which recently announced a 3-for-1 share split. ZEC has seen a dramatic surge, rising over 735% in the past year, with a market capitalization of about $23 billion and a trading price of roughly $1,354, ranking it as the 10th-largest cryptocurrency by market value.
