World Money Integrates Biometrics into Stablecoin Payment Rail
Tools for Humanity has launched World Money, a self-custodial financial super app that integrates biometric verification into its stablecoin payment rail. This approach creates a direct identity-to-payment pipeline, making it the first major stablecoin application to effectively bake identity verification into the payment rail itself.
The app is currently rolling out across more than 150 countries and features a Stripe integration in the United States that allows users to convert everyday money into stablecoins via Apple Pay in minutes. It also includes an Earn tab powered by the Morpho protocol, which has become the largest lending protocol on any Ethereum L2.
However, World Money's identity-first model faces significant regulatory challenges due to concerns over biometric privacy. The app has been banned or halted in several countries, and cease-and-desist orders have been issued in others. The OCC's deadline for federal stablecoin rules could add another layer of complexity to the project's growth.
Despite these challenges, World Money is attempting to build a version of stablecoin infrastructure that is inherently tied to the individual, creating a new category differentiator. Whether this approach can scale globally remains to be seen.
