XRP Could Surpass Bitcoin Market Cap Through Sustained Growth
Former Ripple CTO David Schwartz believes XRP could eventually overtake Bitcoin in market capitalization, but only if it grows faster than its leading competitor.
Schwarz made his comments during an X Spaces discussion hosted by ILLY last week. When asked whether he thought XRP could 'flip' Bitcoin, Schwartz replied: 'Yeah, I do.' However, he clarified that this would not happen due to a decrease in Bitcoin's value but rather because of faster growth for XRP.
Bitcoin currently has a market capitalization of around $1.55 trillion, accounting for 57.3% of the total cryptocurrency market. In contrast, XRP's market cap is approximately $87 billion, roughly 18 times smaller than Bitcoin's.
If Bitcoin's market value remained unchanged, XRP would need to reach about $1.55 trillion to match it, putting its value at around $25 per coin. However, this calculation assumes that the broader digital asset market will expand and that XRP will grow faster than Bitcoin.
