XRP Drops 49% as XRP Ledger Hits $1 Trillion Milestone
Despite the XRP Ledger (XRPL) processing over $1 trillion in value and handling billions of transactions, the XRP token has dropped nearly 49% in the past year, now trading around $1.50. Ripple highlights these milestones, noting that regulated institutions are exploring tokenized assets, stablecoin liquidity is expanding, and new credit products are in development on the network.
The $1 trillion figure reflects cumulative value moved through XRPL rather than current locked capital, showcasing the network's growing utility beyond simple payments. For instance, Brazilian financial provider CSD BR has started using XRPL to mirror ownership records for financial assets, including BTG Pactual investment fund shares. Additionally, stablecoin supply on XRPL has surged to nearly $1.3 billion, with Ripple USD leading the way. Clearpool is also preparing to launch institutional credit products on the network.
However, the disconnect between XRPL's adoption and XRP's price performance persists. Tokenized funds and stablecoins can operate on XRPL without significant XRP demand, as the token is primarily used for network fees and liquidity functions. This explains why increased network activity has not yet translated into higher XRP valuation. The long-term hope is that deeper liquidity, higher transaction demand, or improved investor expectations will eventually bridge this gap.
