XRP Fails to Keep Pace as Bitcoin Reaches Eight-Month High
Bitcoin has reached an eight-month high of $84,702 as of September 21, 2026, while XRP struggles to keep up. Despite a 6.4% gain in the same 24-hour period, XRP's price is still 38% below its January peak.
The contrast between these two cryptocurrencies highlights a deeper structural divide that one good trading day cannot fix. While Bitcoin has a clear legal status and limited supply, XRP faced serious regulatory challenges for five years before being ruled on in August 2025.
A key factor holding back XRP is regulation. Unlike Bitcoin, which enjoys clear legal status, XRP's regulatory uncertainty makes investors view it as riskier and less willing to pay a premium for it.
The supply issue also affects XRP, with Ripple able to release up to one billion coins monthly. This consistent increase in circulating supply puts downward pressure on the price.
