XRP Unlikely to Replicate Past Life-Changing Gains
Buying XRP today is unlikely to deliver life-changing wealth, despite its past successes. From early 2017 to early 2018, XRP’s meteoric rise turned a $1,000 investment into about $347,000. However, current conditions are vastly different, and the coin’s future growth hinges on its ability to establish itself as a financial platform for institutional investors, a goal it has yet to achieve significantly.
For XRP to replicate its previous massive gains, its price would need to soar from $1.50 to approximately $520.50 per coin, creating a market cap of $32.8 trillion. This is nearly 11 times the entire crypto market’s current value of about $3 trillion, making such growth highly improbable, even over the long term.
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is competing in tokenization and payments, but its progress is limited. It holds $499 million in tokenized assets, far behind Ethereum, which has $16.7 billion. In payments, the XRPL hosts just $1.3 billion of the $305.7 billion in stablecoins in circulation, a mere 0.4% share. Even Ripple, the coin’s issuer, favors stablecoins over XRP for settlements.
The lack of a buyback or fee-sharing mechanism means network activity won’t directly boost XRP’s price. While the author of the source holds XRP-related investments, they are not buying more. Potential buyers should not expect past fortunes from today’s XRP purchases.
