XRP vs SWIFT: Ripple CEO's 2019 Statement Still Holds True Today
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse made a significant statement about XRP and SWIFT in 2019, which has resurfaced. At the Economic Club of New York, he argued that XRP carries less risk than traditional SWIFT transactions due to its speed advantage.
When discussing volatility math, Garlinghouse pointed out that an average SWIFT transaction takes three days, equivalent to 270,000 seconds. He compared this to an XRP transaction completing in just 3-4 seconds, resulting in significantly less total volatility risk.
Garlinghouse also explained how traditional fiat transactions settle over two to three days, exposing counterparties to currency risk on behalf of the sender. In contrast, XRP removes this equation entirely due to its fast settlement time.
