XRPL Aims to Tame Multisig Chaos with On-Chain Upgrade Proposal
A proposed upgrade to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) could modernize how multi-signature transactions are coordinated. The 'On-Chain Cosigner' proposal, submitted to the XRPL Standards repository, would allow signers to collect multi-signature approvals directly on the ledger.
This eliminates the need for external communication channels and centralized coordinators, addressing one of the biggest shortcomings of the current multisignature implementation. As explained by Vet, a prominent XRPL community member, the proposal adds native on-chain multi-sig coordination, completely decentralized.
The current implementation requires signers to coordinate and collect signatures off-chain or through smart contracts, creating what the authors describe as the 'last mile' problem. If the coordinator loses collected signatures or goes offline, the signing process can fail.
