Year-End Holiday Lull Hits Crypto Markets with 50% Altcoin Volume Drop
Year-end holiday trading lulls have hit cryptocurrency markets hard, with altcoin volumes plummeting by 50% since last year's comparable period. According to data from analytics firm Santiment, released on December 30, major cryptocurrencies like Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, and Dogecoin are recording significantly lower trading activity than during the same time in 2024.
The decline is attributed to flat price movements and the distractions of year-end holidays, rather than panic selling. This suggests that the drop in volumes reflects weaker short-term interest in these assets.
Oro Crypto's analysis notes that social media discussions about Bitcoin have fallen since mid-November, with its social dominance dipping into low single-digit territory. The firm believes this current environment resembles exhaustion rather than fear, pointing to absent retail participation, a key indicator of major cycle peaks.
