Zcash and Monero Shine as Bitcoin Market Stalls
The cryptocurrency market has seen a shift in focus, with Bitcoin taking a backseat while privacy-focused coins like Zcash and Monero gain attention. Bitcoin is currently trading at $86,264, up just 0.6% in 24 hours, while Ethereum is at $2,714, with a modest 0.3% increase. The overall market cap remains stable at over $3 trillion, according to CoinGecko.
Zcash, a well-known privacy coin, has surged 3%, recovering from a recent dip after reaching near $1,600. Monero has also risen by 2.1%, hitting $562 in the same period. Meanwhile, other major coins like Solana, XRP, BNB, and Tron have seen marginal movements, highlighting the standout performance of privacy coins.
The stability in the broader market can be attributed to recent economic developments. The Federal Reserve raised interest rates to 3.75%-4.00% in mid-September, and the September jobs report showed weaker-than-expected growth, reducing the likelihood of further rate hikes. This has created a balanced environment for risk assets, including cryptocurrencies.
Despite their recent gains, Zcash and Monero are still below their September peaks. Zcash is about 19% below its high of $1,698, while Monero is around 11% lower than its peak of $632.86. Analysts caution that a single day of gains does not indicate a sustained reversal, especially for Zcash, which has experienced significant volatility in the past, including a 38% drop earlier this year.
