Zcash crypto developers have agreed on November 5 as the target date for the NU7 mainnet upgrade, pending a final decision on October 20.

The upgrade will bring significant changes to the network, including shorter block times of 25 seconds, down from the current 75-second target, making blocks three times faster.

Testnet activation is set for October 6, giving developers time to assess NU7 before the mainnet decision. A final mainnet activation decision, including the exact height, is planned for October 20.

The Zcash crypto upgrade centers on three core changes: shorter block spacing under ZIP-218, disabling of v4 transactions, and integration of the Network Sustainability Mechanism through ZIP-234 (alt) and ZIP-235.
