Zcash Mining Boom: Miners Flock to Profitable Privacy Coin

As Bitcoin's mining revenue dwindles, miners are turning to Zcash, where recent price fluctuations have made it four times more profitable than mining Bitcoin. According to data from The Energy Mag, a Bitmain Z15 Pro mining Zcash generated approximately $727.30 per megawatt-hour of electricity in August, compared to the state-of-the-art Bitmain S23 Pro's $179 for Bitcoin.

The surge in profitability is largely due to Grayscale's conversion of its Zcash Trust into an exchange-traded fund (ETF) and listing it on NYSE Arca on August 25. This move drew significant assets under management, exceeding $500 million within two weeks, with approximately $100 million from DCG International Investments.

The influx of capital pushed the price of ZEC to a record high of $890 in August, causing mining profits to skyrocket. The top mining rig now earns around four times more per megawatt-hour than Bitcoin's best machine, making it an attractive option for miners seeking higher returns.
