Zcash Surges on ETF Launches, Renewed Privacy Narrative, and Technical Breakouts
Zcash (ZEC) has seen a significant surge in price over the last 12 hours, rising by approximately 6.3%. This move is largely attributed to the introduction of new ETF and ETP products that allow institutional investors to gain exposure to ZEC.
The Grayscale Zcash trust was converted into the ZCSH ETF on NYSE Arca in August, with over $917 million in assets as of late September. The ETF has seen significant inflows, with around $273 million coming from fresh investments since its conversion. A separate report noted that ZEC ETFs brought in approximately $2.36 million in net inflows on a single day.
The European asset manager 21Shares launched the first physically backed Zcash ETP on Euronext Paris and Amsterdam, further expanding regulated access to ZEC for traditional investors. These new products have created mechanical buying when new units are created in response to investor demand, generating media coverage that highlights Zcash as a top performer.
The privacy-coin narrative has also contributed to the surge, with ZEC being positioned as the flagship of this growing theme. The sector report from 21Shares noted that the privacy-coin category's market cap has grown nearly fivefold over the past year, with Zcash accounting for around $25 billion of that.
Technical breakouts and short squeezes have also played a role in the price increase. Traders have highlighted the asset's breakout from an 'ascending triangle' and its push above round-number resistance zones. Market-wide leverage has been elevated, contributing to the violent altcoin moves seen in recent days.
