Zcash Surges Past 1.5% Market Cap Share of Bitcoin
Grayscale's latest report shows that Zcash has made significant strides in the crypto market. Over the past year, its market cap has risen from a negligible 0.1% of Bitcoin's to 1.5%. This substantial increase can be attributed to growing demand for financial privacy.
The core feature of Zcash, shielded transactions, allows users to encrypt sender, receiver, and amount data while still settling on a public blockchain. As blockchain transparency improves and on-chain surveillance tools become more prevalent, users are increasingly valuing the option to transact privately.
Grayscale's report highlights the opportunity in relative terms, noting that Bitcoin dominates the 'currencies sector' of crypto with around 90-93% of its total market cap. To tap into this growing trend, Grayscale launched its Zcash ETF under the ticker ZCSH on NYSE Arca in August.
The conversion from a trust to an ETF has eliminated the persistent premium or discount to net asset value that plagued earlier trust products. The ETF has reportedly attracted considerable inflows since its launch, and hypothetical scenarios in Grayscale's report show ZEC's price at various levels of Bitcoin market-cap capture.
