Zcash's Ironwood Upgrade Set to Launch Amid Concerns Over Soundness Flaw

Zcash's Ironwood upgrade is set to launch on Tuesday after a 60-day development sprint, replacing the Orchard shielded pool that has been plagued by a soundness flaw since its introduction in 2022.

The new verifiable shielded pool with audit mechanisms is designed to address this vulnerability, which would have allowed an attacker to mint fake ZEC within the pool without detection.

According to Josh Swihart, Executive Director of ZODL, the team worked tirelessly for 60 days, merging 1,391 pull requests and retiring the legacy zcashd software after a decade.

The upgrade also marks the launch of new wallets including Zallet, Zebra, and Zakura, hardened infrastructure, and mobile SDKs across iOS and Android.
