$ZEC Social Mentions Soar Before Grayscale ETF Launch, Quickly Normalize
Social media chatter around Zcash ($ZEC) spiked sixfold in the days leading up to the launch of Grayscale's spot $ZEC exchange-traded fund (ETF), only to quickly subside once trading began.
According to on-chain analytics platform Santiment, mentions of $ZEC reached 232 on August 22, coinciding with a sharp price rally that saw $ZEC climb about 65% from around $509 on August 18 to approximately $852 on August 23.
However, by August 25, the day the ETF started trading, social volume had returned to typical levels, suggesting the initial excitement was largely event-driven.
The pattern of social mentions spiking before a major event and then fading serves as a reminder that hype can drive short-term price movements, but fundamentals and sustained adoption are what determine long-term value.
