$126 Million Yen Water Bond Issued by Asian Development Bank for Sustainable Agriculture
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has issued its first yen-denominated thematic bond to support sustainable agriculture and water management in Asia and the Pacific. The ¥20 billion, or $126 million, seven-year bond was purchased by Zenkyoren, a Japanese insurance federation, and arranged by Daiwa Capital Markets Europe Limited.
The bond marks ADB's third-largest yen issuance and connects institutional investment with projects that help communities manage water shortages, climate-related disasters, and growing pressure on food systems.
Tobias Hoschka, ADB Treasurer, said the issuance reflects the strength of the bank's relationship with Japanese investors while bringing private capital into resilient agriculture and water services.
