$5000 Checks: Another Unfulfilled Promise?

Former Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Holz-Eakin expressed skepticism about President Trump's promise to send $5,000 checks to every American if Republicans hold on to the House and Senate.

Holz-Eakin, who is now president of fiscal policy think tank American Action Forum, said 'I don't think so' when asked if Americans will see these checks. He pointed out that previous promises from Trump, including $9,000 checks for stay-at-home mothers, have not come to fruition.

Holz-Eakin mentioned the Department of Government Efficiency's layoffs and budget cuts as a reason why DOGE checks were never realistic, and added that tariff checks 'weren't that realistic' because Trump didn't have the authority to issue them.

The economist warned that getting inflation under control was the first step in restoring order, and expressed support for the Federal Reserve's efforts to achieve this goal. He attributed high inflation to policy decisions made by the Trump administration, including tariffs and the fight with Iran.
