BoE Keeps Rates Steady Amid Ongoing Energy Price Increases

The Bank of England kept its main interest rate at 3.75% despite rising inflation in the UK, which has reached a five-month high due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East and subsequent increases in energy prices.

UK CPI inflation increased to 3.1% in August and is expected to rise further over coming quarters, prompting concerns about material second-round effects on price and wage-setting.

The Bank of England's Chief Economist Pill, along with MPC members Greene and Mann, voted to raise rates to 4%, but were outvoted by a majority of 6-3.
