Aeon Dives into Low-Cost Jeans Market with 1,000 Yen Denim
Aeon Co., Japan's largest retail giant, has launched a new line of denim jeans priced at 1,000 yen ($6.35) excluding tax, in an effort to attract customers amid a growing consumer trend to save due to rising prices.
The price is about one-third that of conventional denim, and the company hopes that the low-cost jeans will boost sales as household spending continues to decline.
Aeon's move follows Don Quijote's launch of 999 yen jeans in February, which has seen brisk sales with a total of 180,000 units sold across Don Quijote and other retailers since April.
The new line of jeans is produced in a Cambodian factory and comes from the private brand 'Topvalu', offering six sizes for ladies' wear and 18 sizes for men's jeans.
