Air New Zealand Unveils World-First Lie-Flat Sleep Pods for Long-Haul Travellers

Air New Zealand has made history by introducing Skynest, a world-first lie-flat sleep pod concept for Economy and Premium Economy travellers. The innovative idea was selected as one of only 25 winners from over 200 submissions globally.

The airline's Chief Customer Officer Jeremy O'Brien said the recognition is a testament to Kiwi ingenuity. 'Skynest started with a simple challenge to make some of the world's longest journeys better for as many of our customers as possible.'

Skytest will debut on Air New Zealand's new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and initially be available on services between Auckland and New York from December 2026. The six lie-flat pods are designed to provide a restful experience, with features such as fresh bedding, privacy curtains, and ambient lighting.

The 'Nestcessities' kit included in each session will also feature an eye mask, earplugs, socks, and Aotea skincare. Priced from $495 per session, Skynest is set to revolutionise long-haul travel for Economy and Premium Economy passengers.
