AUD/USD Capped by RBA's Cautious Policy Path
The Australian Dollar's upside against the US Dollar is likely to remain limited due to the Reserve Bank of Australia's cautious policy path, according to Societe Generale. The AUD/USD currency pair has been trading within a narrow range as markets weigh the diverging monetary policy outlooks between the RBA and the US Federal Reserve.
The RBA's holding of its cash rate steady signals that it is in no hurry to tighten further, contrasting with the Fed's more data-dependent stance. The interest rate differential between Australia and the US remains a key driver, with US yields still relatively high favoring the carry trade for the US Dollar.
While commodity prices and China's economic outlook provide some support for the AUD, Societe Generale notes that the RBA's cautious approach acts as a ceiling on sustained appreciation. The bank points out that unless the RBA signals a more hawkish shift, any rallies in the AUD are likely to be sold into.
