Aussies Prioritise Travel Despite Tightening Budgets

Australians are willing to make sacrifices in their daily lives to fund their holidays, but they're not giving up on travel altogether. According to new research from Skyscanner, almost eight in ten Australians would cut back on at least one everyday expense to help pay for a trip.

Seven in ten of those surveyed say that travel is worth the financial sacrifice, while half don't feel guilty about spending money on a holiday. However, rather than skipping holidays altogether, Australians are becoming more selective about where, when and how they travel.

Return economy fares from Australia to New Zealand have dropped by 45 per cent year-on-year, according to Skyscanner's data. Almost half (45%) would consider shortening a trip to bring down the cost, while 39% are prepared to be flexible with their travel dates.

Flexibility appears to be key to making travel budgets stretch further, with 94 per cent of those surveyed saying they are willing to adjust their plans to secure a better price. Skyscanner's travel expert Jarrod Kris notes that Australians are prioritising travel and finding ways to make their budgets work harder.
