Australian Home Loan Market Heats Up Ahead of RBA Rate Decision
The Australian home loan market has intensified in anticipation of the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) interest rate decision, which is expected to be announced later today. A growing number of lenders are offering variable rates below 6%, with nearly 50 now on the list.
According to Canstar data, 60% of listed lenders have at least one variable rate starting with a five, and 31 have reduced their variable offerings since June. This has led to significant savings for borrowers who take advantage of these cuts.
A borrower with a $600,000 balance and 25 years remaining on their loan could save up to $10,592 over two years by refinancing to a variable rate below 6%, even accounting for switching costs.
