Bank of England Expands Presence in Leeds with Capitol House Move

The Bank of England is expanding its presence in Leeds, shifting its operations to Capitol House from Yorkshire House. Construction on the new base will start next month and the move is expected to be completed by late 2028.

The bank has secured a long-term lease at Bond Court, owned by Evans Property Group, which will eventually replace its existing base at Yorkshire House. This move forms part of the Bank's Location Strategy Programme, designed to consolidate its property footprint in London by the end of 2028.

The new office in Leeds will provide space for the bank to carry out key central banking functions from both London and Leeds, strengthening its links with organisations across West Yorkshire and the wider region. This expansion comes as Leeds targets growth in its financial and professional services sector, which accounts for around 40% of the city's GVA.

According to Governor Andrew Bailey, 'The Bank's new office in Leeds is an important milestone in our long-term commitment to the city.' Mayor Tracy Brabin added that the move signals a national belief in West Yorkshire's economic future and its status as a hub for financial services.
