Bank of England Holds Interest Rates Amid Energy Price Woes
The Bank of England has decided to keep interest rates at 3.75% for the fifth consecutive time, despite warning that energy prices and a memory chip shortage will drive inflation higher.
The central bank's nine-strong Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted with a majority in favor of keeping interest rates steady, with six members voting to maintain the current rate and three calling for an increase to 4%.
Andrew Bailey, governor of the Bank of England, stated that inflation has fallen faster than expected but that high and volatile energy prices caused by the conflict in the Middle East will lead to a rise in inflation later this year.
