Bank of England Holds Rates, Hints at Future Hike

The Bank of England kept interest rates unchanged at its latest policy meeting, but hinted that it may raise them soon to combat inflationary pressures caused by the Iran war.

The Monetary Policy Committee voted 6-3 in favor of keeping borrowing costs steady, with three members advocating for a quarter-point increase to 4%.

Bank Governor Andrew Bailey emphasized that higher global energy costs have had a limited impact on UK price and wage setting so far, but warned that the longer-term effects could be more significant.

The inflation outlook will be crucial in determining future rate decisions, as some central banks, including the US Federal Reserve, have already started raising borrowing costs.
