Bank of England Keeps Rate Hike Option Open Amid Inflation Concerns
Bank of England officials have left the door open for potential interest rate hikes if inflation pressures intensify beyond current levels. Deputy Governor Dave Ramsden signaled the possibility of raising interest rates in a speech to London's Money Macro and Finance Society.
Ramsden emphasized that while the current policy stance continues to provide restrictiveness, there could be a case for increasing Bank Rate if upside pressures on inflation keep building. This view is consistent with the Bank's September policy decision, which hinted at potential further tightening.
The remarks from Ramsden suggest that even with rates unchanged for now, policymakers remain alert to the risk that inflation may require further monetary tightening. The message reinforces that borrowing costs in the UK could still move higher if inflation dynamics deteriorate.
