Bank of England Secures Long-Term Headquarters in Leeds

The Bank of England has announced its commitment to a new long-term headquarters in Leeds by signing a pre-let for Capitol House. The office space will provide workspace for around 300 employees and facilitate the bank's growing headcount in the city.

Construction work on the office refurb is set to start in October, with the Bank of England planning to move into the building in 2028. This will replace its current base at Yorkshire House, which it opened in 2023.

The governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, stated that the new office in Leeds is an 'important milestone' in the bank's long-term commitment to the city. He added that moving to Capitol House will strengthen their presence across the UK and help them better reflect and represent the people, businesses, and communities they serve.

Tracy Brabin, mayor of West Yorkshire, welcomed the Bank of England's decision, calling it a 'powerful endorsement' of the Northern Square Mile. She highlighted the region's economic potential and its ability to attract national and international institutions.
