The Bank of England Governor, Andrew Bailey, has expressed concerns about the potential impact of AI on the global economy. In a letter to the G20 ahead of their annual meeting, Bailey warned that advanced AI models can 'materially' alter the speed and scale of cyber attacks and undermine market confidence.

The governor emphasized that these models are increasingly sophisticated and have the potential to spread across borders through shared technology providers and infrastructure. He called for global cooperation to address the cyber risk and fortify response and recovery capabilities.

Bailey also reiterated concerns about the dangers of an AI bubble burst, writing that stretched asset valuations driven by AI-related investments could lead to a 'potentially disorderly correction' if paired with other vulnerabilities in private credit and sovereign debt markets.
