BC Upholds North Coast Tanker Ban in Landmark Agreement

BC Premier David Eby celebrated a major win for British Columbia by upholding the North Coast tanker ban in Prince Rupert on July 29, 2026.

The Canada-B.C. Cooperative Prosperity Agreement ensures that heavy oil tankers will remain off B.C.'s pristine North Coast and the oil tanker ban remains intact.

Minister of Environment and Parks Tamara Davidson joined Premier Eby at the press conference alongside Coastal First Nations representatives.

According to Premier Eby, protecting the environment and growing the economy 'go hand in hand' and upholding the tanker ban will protect thousands of jobs and local economies that depend on a healthy coast.
