BoE Deputy Governors Lean Towards Rate Hike as GBP/USD Edges Higher
The Pound Sterling edged higher against the US dollar as three Bank of England (BoE) deputy governors expressed their leaning towards a rate hike. The comments from Deputy Governors Ramsden, Breeden, and Lombardelli add to the growing pressure on Governor Bailey and his committee to increase interest rates.
In a speech in London, Ramsden stated that there could be a case for raising the Bank Rate if upside pressure on the inflation outlook continues to build. He highlighted the risk of energy prices feeding into wage bargaining and price-setting, echoing the concerns expressed by Breeden and Lombardelli earlier this week.
The BoE's decision to hold interest rates at 3.75% in September was a close vote, with six members voting in favor of holding and three advocating for a hike. If Ramsden, Breeden, and Lombardelli join the majority in November, it could signal a shift towards higher interest rates.
The focus is now on upcoming economic data releases, particularly the US Nonfarm Payrolls report on Friday, which could influence the Federal Reserve's decision to raise interest rates. A strong reading could push the Pound Sterling even higher against the dollar.
