BOE Holds Rate, Three Members Favor Immediate Hike

The Bank of England maintained its benchmark interest rate at 3.75%, despite three members voting in favor of an immediate quarter-point increase.

The Monetary Policy Committee's (MPC) decision to hold the rate was widely anticipated, but the divided vote and higher inflation outlook suggest that U.K. policymakers face increasing pressure as energy prices rise.

Consumer-price inflation stood at 3.1% in August, exceeding the Bank of England's 2% target.

The central bank now forecasts inflation to climb to around 3.75% in the fourth quarter and slightly above 4% in the first quarter of 2027, putting it roughly 1.75 percentage points above target late this year and more than two percentage points above target early next year.
