BOJ Delivers Dovish Rate Hike Amid Global Economic Uncertainty
The Bank of Japan (BOJ) raised its target interest rate by 25 basis points to 1.25%, in line with market expectations, but delivered a dovish tone.
The decision was made with a vote of 7-2, with Sato and Asada dissenting for steady rates. BOJ Governor Ueda stated that the bank will consider the timing and pace of adjustment while examining the likelihood of realizing the baseline scenario.
CPI is expected to accelerate 'clearly' above 2% during H2 of FY26, according to the BOJ statement. The central bank emphasized the importance of stabilizing underlying CPI inflation at a level around 2 percent.
In related news, Japan's Nikkei 225 Index rose by 0.8%, while the yen initially weakened against major currencies following the rate hike announcement.
