BOJ Inflation Gauge Surges to New High Amid Rate Hike Concerns
The Bank of Japan's inflation gauge has accelerated to its highest level in months, supporting the case for another interest rate hike. According to a report released by the BOJ on Friday, consumer prices excluding fresh food and special factors rose 2.6% in August from a year earlier, up from 2.3% in July. The gauge that excludes non-fresh food, energy, and special factors also picked up pace, climbing to 1.8% from 1.6%. This surge in inflation suggests that the BOJ may continue to raise its benchmark rate to combat inflationary pressures.
The BOJ has been warning of the risk of inflation overshooting its target, which is a significant concern for policymakers. With inflation now above 2%, some analysts argue that another rate hike could be on the horizon. However, it's worth noting that this is a decision that will ultimately depend on various economic factors and the BOJ's assessment of the current situation.
