Canada Adds 75,000 Jobs in July, Unemployment Rate Drops
Canada's job market experienced a significant boost in July, adding 75,000 jobs to its total. This growth was stronger than economists had anticipated and marks a positive trend for the country's economy.
The unemployment rate fell to 6.4%, its lowest level in two years. Statistics Canada reported that this decline is due to more people finding work than in July of last year.
Andrew Grantham, CIBC senior economist, said 'It's stronger growth than we were maybe anticipating a few months ago.' He noted that the recovery in the Canadian economy is consistent with GDP figures.
However, some economists caution that the labour market still has a long road to full recovery. RBC assistant chief economist Nathan Janzen stated that 'The unemployment rate is still higher than normal, and wage growth slowed in July.'
