A new report from the Toronto Region Board of Trade urges the Canadian government to create a single market, free from internal trade barriers that cost the economy billions.

The 'Patchwork to Prosperity' report estimates that these barriers impose costs equivalent to a 9.5% tariff on the economy and could increase Canada's GDP by $210 billion if removed.

The report recommends that provinces and territories harmonize laws, regulations, and administrative systems within their own jurisdictions as the first step towards creating a single market.

The Toronto Region Board of Trade President and CEO, Giles Gherson, said 'Canada cannot control U.S. trade policy. But it can control the barriers that hold its own economy back.'
