Canada's Big Six Banks Join Forces for Tokenized Deposits
Six major Canadian banks have joined forces to explore digital money solutions, starting with tokenized deposits. This collaboration aims to keep Canada's financial system competitive, secure, and prepared for the evolving digital landscape.
The participating institutions include Bank of Montreal (BMO), Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), National Bank of Canada (NBC), Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Scotiabank, and TD Bank Group. They will focus on developing tokenized deposit solutions that support faster, more efficient, and programmable payments while maintaining regulatory oversight and financial stability.
The initiative will initially explore ways to move tokenized deposits between Canadian financial institutions efficiently. In the long term, it could connect with other emerging digital asset and digital money projects.
