Canadian $20 Note Gets King Charles III Portrait, Czech Republic Commemorates 100 Years of Central Banking

A new portrait of King Charles III has been added to the Bank of Canada's vertical $20 note, marking the first time the monarch's image appears on a Canadian banknote. The updated design features a floral and leaf tapestry below the king's portrait, as well as florals from across Canada's provinces and territories adorning the background. The back of the note displays the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France to highlight Canada's military contributions.

The change is set to enter circulation in late February 2027, more than 70 years after Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne. This update reflects King Charles III's environmental activism and commitment to preserving Canada's natural heritage.

Elsewhere, the Czech National Bank has released a commemorative circulating 5,000 koruna note to celebrate its centennial anniversary. The new issue features a holographic foil print with nano-effects, making it the first Czech banknote to incorporate this advanced security feature.
