A Canadian couple from British Columbia has had to scale back their dream wedding at Warwick Castle after being hit with a hefty vet bill. Madeleine Pincombe, 40, and Shane Dixon-Mitchell, 31, were planning to bring their entire family to the UK for their April 2027 nuptials. However, their savings were depleted after their dog Duke passed away from a blood disease, leaving them with an 11,000 Canadian dollar (£5,830) vet bill.
The couple had initially planned to fly their three children to the UK for the wedding, but the financial strain forced them to change their plans. 'We were going to bring our three kids out... So we were going to pay for everyone to go out there,' Pincombe said. 'And with it being just so expensive, we decided our dog [was] more important than a wedding.'
Pincombe had chosen Warwick Castle for its fairytale setting, inspired by her childhood love of castles. 'As soon as I heard Warwick offers weddings, I jumped to my books [and] started reading,' she explained. The couple booked the venue despite never having visited Coventry and Warwickshire before. Dixon-Mitchell supported the plan, hoping it would be a memorable trip for their family.
Despite the setback, the couple will still travel to the UK in April 2027 for their wedding at Warwick Castle. They plan to spend time exploring the castle and the surrounding area, including the River Avon. Dixon-Mitchell mentioned they have family ties to the UK, with his grandparents currently living in Wigan.
