A recent survey by polling firm Leger reveals that a growing number of Canadians view the United States as an enemy nation due to President Donald Trump's trade policies and perceived attacks on their economy and sovereignty.

The poll, conducted in June 2025, found that 41% of Canadians consider the US an enemy, up from 26% in a similar survey conducted just six months prior. Only 22% view the US as an ally, while 22% see it as neutral.

The trade war between the two nations is a major driver of negative opinion among Canadians. A staggering 63% of those surveyed said they expect Trump's tariffs to have either a moderate or major impact on their personal financial situations.

Canadian respondents also expressed frustration with Trump's suggestion that Canada become the 51st US state, with an overwhelming 85% rejecting the idea.
