Canada is playing host to a major investment summit in Toronto, where Prime Minister Mark Carney will pitch Canada as an attractive location for foreign capital. The event aims to attract $1-trillion in investment over the next five years to fund major projects.

Carney plans to showcase projects across energy, critical minerals, and defence, including a proposed $10.9-billion high-speed rail link between Edmonton and Calgary and a planned $57-billion Port of Churchill expansion project. Officials have identified more than 160 projects that are open for investment.

The summit comes at a time when Canada's economy is facing challenges, with food and energy prices remaining a sore spot for Canadian households. The Bank of Canada pays more attention to core measures of inflation, which are expected to remain close to 2 per cent.
