Carney Touts Canada as Haven Amid Trade War Escalation
Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, hosted the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto to promote investment opportunities in the country. The event aimed to attract foreign capital and diversify Canada's economy, which has become increasingly reliant on the US.
The guest list included representatives from various countries, such as Gulf sovereign wealth funds, European banks, China Investment Corporation, and Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote. Carney emphasized the importance of attracting C$1 trillion (US$720 billion) in investment over the next five years.
To achieve this goal, Carney promised tax deductions and reduced red tape to make Canada more attractive to foreign capital. He also acknowledged that ties with the US remain crucial despite an escalating trade war.
